Wild
Garlic, Allium ursinum
Garlic has powerful antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. The leaves can be eaten whole in salad. Best to eat copious amounts of the leaves and put the flower buds into your salads helping to clean your system after winter. |

They are best eaten when they are young as when the season moves on into April and May the flavour gets stronger and the leaves get tougher. Wild Garlic will be helpful in any of the following conditions: thrombosis, arteriosclerosis, high cholesterol, bronchitis, asthma, whooping cough, sinusitis, intestinal worms, gastro-enteritis, mucous colitis, allergies, ear infections, candida. |

Cleavers,
Galium aparine
Cleavers is a diuretic and is specifically recomended for inflammation of the lymph glands. Taken as a fresh juice it is a powerful cleansing drink for malignant conditions. |

You will need to take large doses up to 500ml per day, you can make Cleaver juice by pounding the leaves and stems, putting them in a jar and covering with spring / mineral water overnight or even better by juicing the whole plant. Cleavers is a strong detoxifier it will help with the following; painful or scanty urine, cystitis, psoriasis, irritable bladder, poor circulation especially for old people. Externally the strong infusion can be effective as a styptic and cooling to burns and abrasions. |

Coltsfoot
flowers, Tussilago farfara The flowers are sent up in March and appear a month before the leaves. The Medieval name Filius ante patrem; - son - before - father refers to the unusual habit of the flowers appearing before the leaves. Coltsfoot is a Zinc accumulator and thrives in soils disturbed by mining, the metal ion - Zinc is necessary for wound healing. Coltsfoot leaf is traditionally used for coughs especially dry unproductive coughs, also for smokers cough, whooping cough and bronchial asthma. It combines well with White Horehound, Hyssop Mullein and Thyme for cough medicines. The crushed leaves are applied to insect bites, swelling, burns and inflammations. |

Nettle,
Urtica dioica
A tonic to the blood, and another spring cleansing herb. It is mildly diuretic so it will encourage elimination of toxins and uric acid. Nettles re-mineralise the body tissues providing vitamins including vitamin C, iron, Calcium and Zinc. It also contains Serotonin and Histamine. Drink Nettle tea to increase breast milk flow, eat Nettle tops steamed for all sorts of splenic disorders, skin diseases, high blood sugar, kidney stones. Use also for eczema, asthma, anaemia, diarrhoea, enteritis and colic. Drink 3 cups of tea daily for best results. For harvesting Nettles, always dry in a warm dark place and then turn them regularly, they are ready to store when they are crispy. Pick off the tops only and try to gather all your winter supply before they flower in June. |
